Hey, Howdy, Hi!

My name is Kara O’Connor. I’m a comedian and visual designer, living in Los Angeles.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my work.

If you’d like to know more about me, please carry on.

Otherwise, check out my resume and reel here! – tl;dr

I feel really fortunate for the opportunity to work in a creative field and I appreciate that it allows me to marry my passions of technology, creativity and humor. I often try to implement comedy in my design process (as well as technology into my comedy process) to ensure I’m generating something people will enjoy.

As for my skill level?

Performing – I have been studying and writing/performing sketch comedy since 2007. As a native New Yorker, I began my studies at both UCB and The Magnet while also performing regularly. As a brief member of the sketch group Chocolate Cake City NYC, we took to the stage at various NYC venues including the Comedy Cellar. Additionally we performed at Chicago Sketchfest and Montreal Sketchfest, where I took my first improv workshop.

In 2011 I moved to Seattle where I immediately jumped into the comedy scene. I began exploring both improv and stand-up, studying with Gary Austin and James Adomian. In 2013 I teamed up with Caitie Auld and Molly Tellers to form Day Job. The success of our group took us to Chicago’s “Women’s Funny Festival”, Portland Sketchfest, NYC’s She Makes Me Laugh Festival, San Francisco Sketchfest and we are currently working on our application for the
Edinboro
Festival! Day Job has been featured in City Arts Magazine and Seattle Gay Scene.

I have recently (2019) moved to the Los Angeles area where I’m studying at Second City and The Groundlings.

Visual Design – Immediately after completing my design program in 2018 – I was hired by Distiller.com to develop video content with the goal of driving more users to their app. In addition to editing footage and developing animation, I provide the voice over. Recently, I’ve had the opportunity to work with QMX (Quantum Mechanix) in creating animated promotional material for their various collectible designs, including licenses from DC Comics, Marvel and Harry Potter. I’ve since gained immense knowledge in various design programs and can confidently say I’m now adept in many of the Adobe Suite applications; specifically After Effects, Premier Pro, Audition, Animator, InDesign, Muse, DreamWeaver, Photoshop, Illustrator and Character Animator. What I don’t already know I tend to learn quickly, due to my love of learning, technology and a challenge.

During the pandemic, I utilized my passion for comedy and my technical abilities to produce sketch comedy for TikTok. I’ve grown my followers to over 10,000 in under 6 months and have had numerous viral videos (including one retweeted by Mark Hamil :-O ). It’s also been a great way to avoid going mad in these turbulent times.

Thanks for stopping by!
